Meet our staff.
Reverend Roger Harwerth and wife, Brenda
The Rev. Roger A. Harwerth is a graduate of San Francisco Theological Seminary and has served churches in Missouri, Kansas, Texas, Oregon, and Washington. Colleagues have shared that Roger is a strong communicator, and has guided his past two congregations with a progressive outlook and an eye for inclusivity. He is also attributed with maintaining a positive approach to problem solving.
Roger has always been active in Presbytery leadership, including as chair of the Committee on Ministry and as an Ordination Exam Reader. Roger has been a commissioner to General Assembly (2012) and served on the Personnel Committee of the Synod of the Pacific, as well as being a member of a Presbyterian Disaster Assistance Mission Team (from Eastern Oregon Presbytery) to Birmingham, Alabama.
Roger grew up in Overland Park, Kansas, and his home church was Westport Presbyterian in downtown Kansas City, Missouri. Roger and Brenda were high school sweethearts and have been married since 1980. All three of their children (Chris, Amanda, and Hannah) are grown and married, and Roger and Brenda have two grandchildren. Chris and his family live in Odessa, TX; Amanda and her family live in Rowlett, TX, and Hannah and her husband live in Pendleton, OR.
Brenda is quite involved in craft projects and is an excellent baker. She is a doting “Oma” to her grandchildren and her favorite season is summer -- but she appreciates the change of seasons. Roger enjoys singing in choral groups and is an avid snow-skier; he also enjoys playing Bluegrass and Gospel music on the upright bass.
Roger is looking forward to being at Ridglea, particularly hearing people’s stories, moving toward the next chapters of mission, and being a part of this ministry of grace, hope, and love.
